Tasting Note: Merlot from northern Italy, soft and herbaceous, dotted with plums rendered orderly by fine tannins.

Food Matching: Try with rich pasta dishes, red meats, especially roasted or grilled lamb.

Vineyard: Vistorta’s clay soils and warm, well-ventilated summers are the never-failing elements that yield red wines of impressive quality; those are the same conditions that Brandino found in Bordeaux and in Medoc. Each vineyard parcel is individually harvested and vinified, and the finest-quality grapes, with their unique fragrances and flavours, will give life to a wine with expressive personality and a fine balance of all of its components. At Vistorta, vineyard management has alwaysfacilitated the vines into a healthy golden old age, capturing the quintessence and subtle nuances that old vines can show off.

Vinification: The 16 hectares on this estate under vines, are managed by Branino Brandolini d’Adda, who has set himself the goal of solely producing Merlot, in Friuli. The clones for the most recent plantings are from Bordeaux and add to the complexity of the vineyards. Cellar techniques incorporated are similar to that of the Bordelais; Six days fermentation, 15-20 days maceration, malolactic fermentation in the barrel, aged for 12 months in small French oak. The wine is not filtered prior to release and is cellared for 5 months prior to release.
